From Apps to Services
As we are moving from tapping on an app to focusing on AI-recommended service experiences for specific micro-tasks, usually in the moment and on-the-go. We’ll only use full-feature apps when we’re not on the move. Following is a collection of augmented reality concepts enhancing day to day life.

Project Details
1 month | Team of 3 | Design Director, Senior Designer (Myself), Designer
My role
- Preparing artifacts and hosting workshop with client
- Partner with design director in strategizing the project and next steps
- Visual design of the concepts and presentation
Concepts
01 Dynamic Weather
Through augmented reality a person can experience and interact with the weather in an immersive 360° way.
Viewing tip: Click on the first image and use arrow keys in the lightbox to move between images.

User starting the AR mode

User opens the menu by bringing left hand in the view

Current weather is displayed at user's location

User scrolls through time to view weather during the day

With both hands, user gestures to push in the view

User is displayed the globe with weather pins at different locations
02 Learning a Recipe
In the kitchen, augmented reality can be used to improve basic cooking skills through immersive instructional overlays.

User opens the fridge and AI starts scanning

AI suggests recipes based on available ingredients and makes suggestions for grocery shopping

User selects a recipe and sees the details

User uses gestures to scroll through the recipe

While prepping, AI displays instructions and recommended chopping action
03 Tokyo Metro
Using AR in complex public transportation systems with language translation can be efficient and stress-reducing.

User sees details of the surroundings

User pulls up a map and starts to input a destination

AR displays the steps and highlights the path

As user gets closer to the metro station, more contextual details re displayed

In the station, the right train is highlight and waiting spot is recommended based
04 Augmented Reality Sports
Augmented reality can enhance spectatorship of a live sporting event by making it more dynamic and entertaining.

AR highlights the rowers and their details

User selects a rower to view his POV

User overlays previous recording of the rower from a different competition

As the rowers approach the finish line, winners are displayed

Pinch gesture is used to replay event
05 Eating Japanese Food
Augmented reality assistance can make traveling to a foreign country and its cultural experiences with food and drink much more enjoyable and easy to learn about.

AR displays the different sushi's and condiments in front of the user

User can select one to know more details about the sushi

User is shown how to use chopsticks with a virtual hand

User picks up a sushi and AR recommends the best sauce for the particular sushi
Gestures
Along with use cases, a key gestures set was developed to do common interactions like scrolling, zooming in and out, selecting etc.

Ideation Workshop
Working with the design director, I prepared and conducted a brainstorming workshop with the client. During the workshop, I guided participants through the process and actively mentored and participated to create meaningful artifacts for visual design phase.
